Geoff Brown was born in Liberty, Sullivan
County, New York, was educated at Liberty High School, and graduated from the
Lawrenceville School, Hamilton College, and Columbia University. Later, he earned an advanced professional certificate from New York
University's Graduate School of Business. After military service during
the Vietnam era as an enlisted man in the 25th Infantry
Division and as a Lieutenant with data processing responsibilities in the Finance Corps, he worked as a Programmer at McDonnell Douglas
Corporation, a Consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton, was Systems Supervisor at
American Metal Climax, Inc, and, for 28 years worked in a variety of capacities at
Citibank, now Citigroup, retiring from Citigroup as a Vice President and Project
Manager in 1999.
Brown's business career combined technology with business processes, frequently to solve an urgent
problem. Among his major
achievements at Citibank were creation of technology and processes to stop frauds in process, development of risk management and contingency
planning processes in banking operations (particularly those
involving funds movements), management of major
projects to add capabilities to Citi's proprietary ATMs, to encrypt
on-line business banking, and to migrate international funds transfer origination by
customers in 105 countries to secure technology platforms.
Through the years he has maintained an
active interest and participation in documentation of American history,
specializing in genealogy and history in the eastern United States. When
he resided in New York City, he was active in the Society of Colonial Wars and
the Saint Nicholas Society.
He has also volunteered for more
than 20 years with the United States Pony
Clubs, Inc., a not-for-profit
organization dedicated to developing character and responsibility in young people
through a program teaching riding, mounted sports and the care of horses, serving in a
variety of Club, Region, and National positions. Within Pony Club he was
an officer at club and regional levels, and a member of the Mounted Games,
Communications, and Technology Committees of the National Pony Club
organization. A frequent
presenter
at the USPC Annual Meetings on a variety of topics, he was a Horse Management
Judge both in the Northeast and at National Championships, and wrote an early handbook
for new Horse Management Judges. He was a founder of the DCDigest e-mail
group for USPC, and developed one of the first regional websites for his home
region as well as one of the first regional e-mail groups. Now he
confines most of his efforts to his local club,
Lakeville Pony Club,
of which he is webmaster. He was previously, on two occasions, Joint
District Commissioner of that club, was for several years Vice Regional
Supervisor of the New York/Upper Connecticut Region, and was that region's first
Horse Management Organizer.
He founded and moderates
the MountedGames e-group, serving not only Pony Club games participants but
equestrian games aficionados regardless of organizational affiliation all over the world.
Further demonstrating his belief in
Mounted Games not only as a superb tool for teaching riding and horsemanship,
but also as a whole lot of just plain fun, he recently completed a two year
term as Vice President of
MGAA (Mounted Games
Across America), a 501-c-3 organization dedicated to spreading the sport of
Mounted Games across the nation.
