Some Questions and Answers about the Neversink, New York CD-ROM:
|
Question: Why did Geoff Brown produce a CD-ROM about
Neversink for Between the Lakes Group?
Answer: He
remembers where he came from....maybe
you do too!!
His mother's papers
contained her parents' collection of Neversink material. After the success of
the Liberty NY CD-ROM, it seemed reasonable to make this material available to
everyone. In a nutshell, that's it.

Question: How did you decide to let people order
with a credit card? That looks like "big business" to me!
Answer: We had been thinking
about PayPal™ for a while. While in the beginning we didn't expect to
sell enough copies of our CD-ROMs to justify taking credit cards, two things made us
change our minds. First, we heard from a potential buyer in Europe -- he
wondered if he could pay us in Euros, and the charge our small-town bank would make
for exchanging Euros would have been more than what the CD-ROM cost. Credit card
companies, of course, take care of the foreign exchange transaction automatically,
and furthermore, they do it at "bank rates". Second, we discovered
that lots of people were printing out the order form but never mailing an order in.
To us, that meant that we needed to let them get the whole transaction done right
away, before they forgot about it. PayPal represented an easy way to do that.
Third, and most important: people like it!!
We tried the credit card alternative
on the Memories of Liberty NY CD-ROM and nearly half the purchasers chose that
alternative. Since then, as we've added more CD-ROMs, the percentage has
risen dramatically. That's proof enough for us!
|
Question: Is the Neversink CD-ROM REALLY ready to ship or
are you just taking orders?
Answer: We have
been shipping copies of the "Old Neversink" CD to satisfied purchasers ever
since the end of November 2002. In fact, it's now one of our best-selling
CD-ROMs.
for ordering information.

Question: I would like to see this CD-ROM before I buy it.
Can I see it in stores?
Answer: Yes, you
can, We're quite honored that two fine bookstores now carry this
CD-ROM (as well as our other New York State CD-ROMs). You'll find
links to them on our
home page, if you'd like to visit them).
Otherwise, our distribution is entirely via this website. However, volume
discounts are available. Please
for particulars if you are interested in five or more copies. If you have a
store, museum, historical society, or other organization and would like to sell this CD (or any
of the
other CDs produced by Between the Lakes Group), please let us know!
All of our CDs have ISBNs to simplify your record keeping. |
Question: Will this CD-ROM run on my PC?
Answer: If you're viewing this
on the Internet, and you are using a PC, the answer is "most probably
YES". We've constructed it using web browser technology, and have tested
it on machines as old as a Dell 486. We've also tested it on a brand new
Pentium 4 running Windows XP Professional, and several in between. It runs
nicely on all of them. People who order the CD-ROM also receive access to a
web page where any updates, limitations, or corrections are listed. However,
some Mac
users may be disappointed.
if you're a Mac user.

Question: This has really interested me in the history of
the Neversink area. How can I get involved?
Answer: There's a Yahoo!Group
called "Neversink". It's moderated by Geoff Brown, the compiler of
the "Neversink" CD-ROM. It costs nothing to subscribe. To
subscribe, just send an e-mail to neversink-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
It's that easy!! We'll be glad to hear from you!

Question: I have some general questions about how you do business, such
as what I actually receive, how you send it to me, your privacy policy, and so
forth. Where can I get this information?
Answer: We've prepared a general
Questions and Answers page that provides answers to just this kind of questions --
and more that you may not have even thought of yet! To go to our "How
we do business" questions and answers,
